Missouri 1926

This striking photograph was taken in Missouri in 1926. It shows children participating in a storefront window display put on by the St. Joseph and Buchanan County Humane Society. The reflections on the glass indicate that the street out front of this display was full of activity–we can only imagine what those passing by thought when they saw a group of boys and girls looking out at them, holding signs reading “Mercy,” “Justice,” and “Liberty.”

Humane Education exhibit in Missouri, 1926. Photograph published in Our Dumb Animals, collection of MSPCA Angell.
